Tirumeninathar Temple



Tirumeninathar Temple is situated at Tirumeeyachur near Mayiladuthurai, in Tiruvarur District, 2.5 km from Peralam. According to folklore, Surya placed Shiva and Parvati on an elephant and prayed here. Spanning over an area of two acres, the temple has a vimana of the Gajaprishta style. The specialty of the temple is that the sun's rays illuminate the sanctum for a period of 7 days from the 21st day of the month of Aries. The temple contains the idols of Vinayakar, Ganga Visarjanamurthy, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhavar, Brahma, Uma-Alinganamurthy, Durga and Rishabantikar. The main festivals celebrated are Aadipperukku, Kartikai Deepam, Arudra Darisanam, Rathasaptami in Thai (January–February), Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navratri and Skanda Shashti.
