Chitrakut



Chitrakut (also spelt Chitrakoot), one of the holiest places in India, is located in Chitrakut District of Uttar Pradesh and is about 132 km west of Allahabad. According to legend, it was the dwelling place of Lord Ram, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman during their exile. The place has over 30 temples. The great poet Tulsidas spend many years of his life at Chitrakut.

The nearest railhead is at Chitrakut on the Jhansi-Manikpur main line and connects Jhansi, Mahoba, Harpalpur, Satna and Chhatapur.
