National Highway 5




National Highway 5 links Bahragora in Jharkhand with the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. This 1,533 km-long road spans across the states of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and touches some major district headquarters towns and cities on its way.

National Highway 5 originates at the junction with National Highway 6 near Bahragora and runs southwards past Baripada to join National Highway 60 near Baleswar. It then turns south-west and passes through Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khorda and Chhatarpur before entering Andhra Pradesh near Udayagiri. The National Highway 5 travels a total distance of 488 km in Orissa.

In Andhra Pradesh, National Highway 5 continues its way down south-west past Haripur and Srikakulam to join National Highway 43 near Natavalasa. It then passes near Visakhapatnam and through the towns of Eluru, Guntur, Ongole and Nellore before entering Tamil Nadu at Tada. The National Highway 5 travels a total distance of 1,000 km in Andhra Pradesh.

In Tamil Nadu, National Highway 5 runs past Pulicat and Gummidipundi and eventually terminates at Chennai, the total distance traveled in the state being 45 km.

Balugaon, Chilika, Ganjam, Gopalpur, Bhimunipatnam, Waltair and Pulicat Lake are some tourist spots lying on or near the National Highway 5.
