Khordha



Khordha, the headquarters of Khordha District, is about 30 km south-west of Bhubaneswar.

The town was formerly known as Kurada, which means foul-mouthed. Kurada was the capital city of Orissa in 16th century and the Khurda fort was the last independent fort of the British India. The town finds an important place in the history as the center of Paik Rebellion of 1817-18. Khordha is also an important center of handloom industry.

Nearby tourist attractions are Barunai Hill (2 km), Barakul (76 km), Atri (12 km), Hirapur (45 km), Nandankanan Sanctuary (46 km), Dhauli (38 km) and Khandagiri and Udaygiri (23 km).

The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar. Khurda Road Junction Railway Station is 12 km from city center. National Highway 5 passes through the town.
