Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary

Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary in Thane District of Maharashtra is about 90 km from Mumbai.

Spread over an area of about 320 sq km, the sanctuary comprises the catchments area of Tansa Lake and the surrounding forests of Shahapur, Khardi, Vaitarna and East Wada Ranges in Shahapur Taluka of Thane District. Tansa Lake is the perennial source of water to wildlife in the sanctuary.

Wildlife population includes panther, barking deer, mouse deer, hyena, wild boar, leopard, jackal, four-horned antelope, chital, sambar deer, hare and common langur.

The best time to visit is November to May.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai is the nearest airport. The nearest railhead is at Atgaon, about 13 km from the sanctuary.

By road, the sanctuary can be accessed from Shahapur located on Mumbai-Agra highway ( National Highway 3).
