Four-horned Antelope




Four-horned Antelope (Tetraceros quadricornis) is also known as Chowsingha Deer and is seen in undulating or hill country, and shelters in tall grass and open jungle near water.

The male stands about 65 cm at the shoulder and weighs 20 kg. It has two pairs of horns, posterior horns are usually 8 to 10 cm long and the anterior horns are 1 to 2 cm. The male bull is very aggressive.

It is the smallest antelope in Asia, living singly or in pairs. The most interesting feature is the presence of a pair of well-developed glands between the false hooves of the hind legs of both sexes. Old males have yellowish color, while females are in brownish bay. It has a dark stripe at the front of each leg.
