Tinsukia District




Tinsukia District is located in Upper Assam, bounded in the east and south by the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in the south and west by Dibrugarh District and in the north by Dhemaji District. It has an area of 3,476 sq km, and holds a population of 1.2 million. Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, Doomdooma, and Makum are the major towns.

The Brahmaputra, Lohit, Buri Dehing, and Dibru are the major rivers. Tinsukia is an industrial district, yet it produces a sizeable amount of tea, oranges, ginger, citrus fruits, and paddy. Majority of the population are cultivators and agricultural workers.
