Lohit District



Lohit District derives its name from river Lohit. It is located on the north-eastern edge of Arunachal Pradesh, and covers an area of 11,402 sq km. Lohit is bounded by Dibang Valley District in the north, China and Burma in the east, the state of Assam and Dibang Valley District in the west and Changlang District in the south. It is a region of mountains and lower hills with dense evergreen forests, innumerable rivers and rivulets.

The population is about 0.15 million. Parashuram Kund, Bhismaknagar, Glow Lake, Dong, Hawa Camp, Buddha Vihar at Namsai and the District Museum and Craft Center are the main tourist destinations. The main tribes are Mishmi, Tai Khamti and Singpho. Tamladu and Sangken are the two main festivals. Tinsukia and Tezu are the nearest railway station and airport respectively. The town of Tezu is the headquarters of Lohit District.
