Tezu

Tezu is the headquarters of Lohit district, located at 600 ft above sea level. There is a tribal settlement here which relies heavily on agriculture for survival.

The main attraction here is the Parashuram Kund, especially during winters, when a fair is held during Makar Sankranti. Pilgrims, both tribals and non tribals, come from all over the country to take a holy dip in the Kund to wash away their sins. The kund was destroyed in an earthquake some years ago, but the spring is still there. There is a large lake called Glow Lake which is a great tourist attraction.

People from far and near throng Tezu during the Brahmaputra Darshan festival which is held in the month of January. The Lali Wildlife Sanctuary is an interesting destination. Tezu is also ideal for trekking and hiking, river rafting, boating and angling on the river Siang and river Lohit.

The Museum and Craft centers are situated at the Tezu town center. The books, the crafts and handloom articles of different communities of the people of Arunachal Pradesh are available in these centers.

Foreign tourists will be provided accommodation in the traditional Mishmi houses. One can also stay at Namsai Circuit House, Inspection Bunglow or Hotels in Nansai on way to Tezu.

Best season to visit Tezu is from November to February. Woollens are required in winters and cottons are suitable for summers.

Nearest airports are Tezu airport and Dibrugarh airport. Tinsukia Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
