Shopian



Shopian is a foot-hill town situated 55 km south of Srinagar, in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir. Spread over an area of 5.44 sq km, it is an important stopover on the Mughal Road across the Pir Panjal Range used by the Mughals to visit Kashmir.

Shopian is famous for its apple orchards. It is also known for its exquisite hand-woven lois (woollen blankets). Shopian is surrounded by Kaunsernag and Kungwattan; icebergs flow in these lakes till June.

Shopian Jama Masjid, Aharbal Waterfalls (13 km) and Hurpora (12 km) are the major tourist attractions in and around Shopian.

Shopian can be reached from Srinagar via Pampore and Pulwama.
