Nedungunam

Nedungunam is situated 24 km from Arani in Vellore District. The place is renowned for an ancient and attractive temple of Lord Ram.

Nedungunam means noble quality. Legend has it that after Vibhishana Pattabhishekam (coronation) in Sri Lanka, Lord Ram was returning to Ayodhya along with Sita, Lakshman and Lord Hanuman and he noticed Sukha Brahman, a saint in the form of a parrot. The saint was offering prayers to Lord Ram on the banks of the Kaliyar River. The Lord descended from his chariot and blessed the saint. The place where the Lord blessed the saint came to be known as Nedungunam.
