Macpherson Strait

Macpherson Strait lies in between South Andaman and Rutland Island of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The significance of this strait is that it is the only area navigable by ocean-going vessels. The recommended channel has a least depth of 7 m and a least navigable width of 0.5 km. It has a harbour on the western coast of Andaman District.

The other three straits - Middle Strait, Homfray's Strait and Austin Strait are connected by ferry transports. The nearby tourist spots are Mt Harriet, Madhuban, the Viper Islands and the beautiful Bay of Constance.

Macpherson Strait can be approached from South Andaman as well as from Port Blair.
