The royal pink city


Jaipur is the headquarters of both Rajasthan and Jaipur District. This picturesque place, founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II and famously called the 'Pink City', comprises opulent forts, enchanting palaces, embattled walls, temples and havelis. Jaipur is said to be the only city in the world, symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe, through nine rectangular sectors sub-dividing it. This well-planned city was designed by a young Bengali engineer and scholar named Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. In 1876 Jaipur was painted pink to welcome Prince Albert and earned the name, ‘the pink city’.

Jaipur is well-connected to major cities and towns by air, rail, and road. Flight services are available to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Dubai from the Sanganer Airport. A broad gauge railway line connects Jaipur to all the metrocities of India.

The major attractions of the city include Hawa Mahal, Amber fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Jaigarh fort, Birla Mandir, Govind Devji Temple, Nahargarh fort, Jal Mahal, Bagru, Ram Niwas Garden, Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh, Vidyadhar's garden, and museums such as Government Museum and Palace, Sawai Man Singh Museum, Archaeological Museum of Amer, Museum of Indology, Virat Nagar museum, modern art gallery. Jaipur is home to excellent handicrafts, especially exquisite gold jewelry decorated with precious stones, blue pottery, carving on wood, stone and ivory, block print, tie and dye textiles, handmade paper, and miniature painting. Sheetla Mata fair, Banganga fair, Gogaji fair, and Shri Mahavirji fair are the major festivals.
