Imphal River

Gunn River

Imphal River originates in the hill ranges of the Senapati District and flows south, forming the boundary line demarcating the Thoubal District on its north and the west. Though lean and dry in the summer, the river becomes violent and turbulent during the rainy season, causing wide spread damage to paddy fields and property. It was once a means of transport for valuable merchandise but the advent of cheap and faster means of road transport has made people less dependent on the river. Still the sand, pebbles and boulders obtained from the river provides for the livelihood of many people inhabiting its banks.
