Chitkul is the last and the highest Indian village on the old Hindustan-Tibet trade route, in the
Baspa Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Perched at an altitude of 3450 m above sea level, it is one of the best places for trekking expeditions.
Major point of attraction here is the three temples of local Goddess Mathi. The main temple is believed to have been constructed 500 years ago.
The best time for visit is from April to November. A PWD rest house and the Timber Trekking Camp offer comfortable tents and meals.
The nearest airport is at Shimla (235 km).
Sangla is about 26 km from here. Situated on the banks of
Baspa River, it is the last point reachable without a permit. There is a road along the left bank of Baspa River from Karchham.
