Basti District in Uttar Pradesh
covers an area of 3,733 sq km. The population is over 2 million. Basti has its boundaries with Sant Kabir Nagar District
in the east, Gonda District
in the west, Siddharthnagar District
in the north, and the river Ghaghra in the south, separating it from Faizabad
town is the district headquarters. The Ghaghra, Rapti,
, and Ami are the important rivers and streams.
Sugarcane, maize, paddy, pulses, wheat, barley and potato are commonly cultivated. Sugar factories, cottage industries and small scale industries including the manufacturing units of brassware, iron and carpentry goods, agricultural implements, bricks, agro-products, foot-wear, soaps, candles, and pottery are present here.
The temperature varies from a maximum of 44oC in summer to a minimum of 9oC in winter. Winter is from mid-November to February, followed by summer season, which lasts till the middle of June. The annual rainfall is 1,166 mm.
Ganeshpur, Makhauda, Chawni Bazar, Nagar, Chando Tal, Barah, Bhadeshwar Nath, Paida, and Agauna are the major tourist attractions.
