Ettayapuram

Ettayapuram, the erstwhile Ilasanadu was a part of the Pandya kingdom. It is said that when the local chiefs declined to pay the taxes to the Pandyas, Ettappar at Ilasanadu collected the taxes with the help of his army. He was later made as the ruler of the region by the Pandya King. The place came to be known as Ettayapuram in 1535. Ettayapuram Palace and Bharathiar Mani Mandapam, built in the memory of Subramania Bharathiyar, are the main tourist attractions here.
