Jodhpur District




Jodhpur District lies in the western part of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Barmer and Pali districts in the south, Bikaner District in the north, Nagaur District in the east, and Jaisalmer District in the west. It has a total area of 22,850 sq km. Hindi and Rajasthani are the main languages.

Jodhpur is shaped as an irregular rectangle studded with a few small hillocks. The Luni River runs through Jodhpur and ends in the form of an artificial lake known as Jaswant Sagar. The total annual rainfall is 28 cm. Millet, moth, groundnut, cotton, bajra, wheat and barley are the major crops grown.

Jodhpur is famous for sculptures, palaces, forts, temples, and havelis. The important places to visit are Rohetgarh Fort, Mehrangarh Fort, Government Museum, Jaswant Thada, Zenana Mahal Palace Museum, Sur Sagar Palaces, Umaid Bhawan Museum, Mandore, Ossian, Balsamand Lake, Gulab Sagar Lake, and Sardar Samand Lake. The 22743Marwar festival is the prominent festival. Other fairs and festivals include Gangaur festival, Nag Panchami, Kite festival, and Veerpuri Ka Mela.
