Veerpuri Fair

A fair to commemorate the heroes of Rajasthan, Veerpuri is held at the beautiful garden in Mandore, about 10 km north of Jodhpur. It falls on the penultimate Monday of Shravan.

According to a local legend, Jaswant Singh, who ruled Mandore, was sent to Ahmednagar by Aurangazeb to crush a rebellion. He won the battle, and he built a gallery of heroes to mark the victory. Every year on the last Monday of Shravan, he visited this gallery to pay homage to the heroes. Veerpuri Fair is held to commemorate this event.

People from all communities gather here during this fair, and offerings such as coconut and sweet are made to the images of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Chamunda - an incarnation of Goddess Kali.
