Restricted Areas

A person visiting India requires, in addition to entry visas, special permits to visit certain areas of the country. Areas such as the north eastern frontier states of Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, certain areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, union territories of Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep are out of bound for foreign nationals. Travelers, who intend to visit any of these areas, must apply for a permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs, at least four weeks in advance.
