Karnah



Karnah, formerly known as Karnav, is a small hamlet, located on the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas, in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir. One of the taluks of the district, it entices the visitors by its panoramic landscape and historic importance.

The area was once ruled by the Bombas. After a long period of undisputed rule, Karnah was captured by the Sikhs.

Places of importance: Karnah Micro Hydel Project and Jama Masjid. It is believed that Hazrat Shahi Hamdan, a religious person, lived in the corner of the masjid.

Kishan Ganga River forms the line of control in Karnah areas. Nastachun Mountain detaches Karnah from Kupwara, which is 85 km north-west of Srinagar.
