Rangareddy District

Rangareddy District is named after the famous freedom fighter and Telangana leader Sri Ranga Reddy. It was carved out from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and a few surrounding urban settlements of Hyderabad District.

Located at the heart of the Deccan plateau, it is bounded in the north by Medak District, in the east by Nalgonda District, in the south by Mahabubnagar District and in the west by Gulbarga District of Karnataka. Over half of the population is involved in agriculture and its allied activities.

The basin of the Musi river forms the major part of Rangareddy, which accounts to 65 percent. The other significant river basins are the Kagan Basin and the Manjira basin. Various rivers flow across this district with seasonal rivulets and small streams.

Tourist attractions are the Himayat Sagar Dam, Osman Sagar Dam, Vikarabad, Dinosaurium, Alleygator, and Shivalayam at Keesaragutta.

Vikarabad Junction Railway Station located on the Secunderabad-Mumbai line is an important railway station. The nearest airport is at Hyderabad.
