Sujani is a traditional embroidered quilt similar to Kantha (a popular art form in West Bengal
). The pattern and color of the stitches are simple and bold, similar to Madhubani paintings
. The patterns are marked with symbolic motifs and have colored quilting threads as outline. The background is filled mostly with white threads. The stitching will be in a circular manner in order to fill the motifs. These quilts though made from used textiles, are given as gifts for weddings, births, and special occasions.
