Srivilliputtur Temple

An ancient temple


Srivilliputtur temple is located in Srivilliputtur town in Tamil Nadu. This place is believed to be the birthplace of Andal, the wife of Lord Vishnu. Andal is also the author of Tiruppaavai, the celebrated collection of 30 poems. The temple is considered to be among the holiest of the 108 Divya Desam shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

The temple tower, one among the tallest towers in Tamilnadu, is twelve-storeyed and rises to a height of 192 ft. The temple features delicate carvings. In the north eastern segment of the temple complex is the Vatapatrasayee temple while the south western segment houses the temple of Andal. There are shrines dedicated to each of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
