Its objective is to render high-technology medicine and develop patterns of teaching at post-graduate (PG) level in super specialties and to impart high standard of medical education. The institute works to improve the physical needs of the people in the surrounding districts and the Rayalaseema region.

SVIMS offers courses including B Sc Nursing, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, P G Diploma in Para-Medical Technical Courses and Post-Doctoral Certificate Courses. It has a well-developed medical library with Medlars (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System) and electronic mail. Medlars can accesses and retrieves abstracts from more than 3000 medical journals.
