Sri Chamundeswari Temple is situated on the western banks of Pamini River, in the Poovanur village, Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is Lord Pushpavananathar (Sri Chaturanga Vallabhanathar). Dakshinamurthi, Sri Karpagavalli, Sri Rajarajeswari and Sri Chamundeswari are also worshipped here. The most noteworthy feature of the temple is that Goddess Parvati, in the dual form of Sri Karpagavalli and Sri Rajarajeswari, has two sannidhis.
Situated amidst green paddy fields, the temple stands majestically with its five-tiered Rajagopuram. The temple has two sacred tanks - Ksheera Pushkarani and Krishnakushtahara theerthams - bathing in these tanks are thought to cure even some of the incurable diseases.
The temple is just 9 km from Alangudi and 44 km from Kumbakonam. The nearest railhead is at Nidamangalam.
