Sri Banupurishwarar Temple



Located east of Banadurai Street at Kumbakonam is Sri Banupurishwarar Temple. The presiding deities of the temple are Lord Shiva as Banapureeswarar with his consort Goddess Somkalambal. The name of the temple came from a legend that Lord Shiva appeared as a hunter and broke the pot of Amrita.
