Located at a height of 9,688 ft, it is an ideal base for mountaineers on their trail from Mulbekh to the Great Himalayas. Phekbar, Buruqqu, Kuste and Khardang are the neighboring locations. Short excursions can be taken to Lalung Glacier and Mulbekh.

Samar can be reached on the Ando – Goma route, which leads to Shergol. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, which is on the Jammu – Pathankot line.
