Poovanur

Poovanur is a small village situated in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu. This beautiful hamlet still maintains its charm and simplicity, at the same time embracing all the modern developments. Poovanur was once known as Pushpavanam or 'forest of flowers'.

Major point of attraction here is the Sri Chamundeswari Temple, situated amidst the vast expanses of green paddy fields, on the western banks of Pamini River - a tributary of Cauvery River.

Poovanur is just 9 km from Alangudi and 44 km from Kumbakonam. The nearest railhead is at Nidamangalam.
