Pindari Glacier

Pindari is a 5 km long glacier lying between the Nanda Devi and Nandakot peaks. It is one of the most easily accessible of all the Himalayan glaciers and hence has lured mountaineers and trekkers since the last century. The glacier is very white and at some places, spots of light blue and brown are seen. It terminates at an altitude of 3,627 m and occupies an area of 340 sq km.

The Pindari River originating from the glacier drains the valley. It has cut a gorge in the thick glacier, resulting in the formation of spacious glacial terraces spread on both sides of the gorge. Numerous waterfalls, hanging valleys and tremendous cliffs add to Pindari’s rugged beauty. Tourist season ranges from mid April to June and September to November.
