Pharkanti

Pharkanti is the death ceremony of Rabha tribe. The ceremony consists of a variety of ritualistic dances. The artists wield swords and shields while dancing. The accompanying music is produced by a host of indigenous instruments made of wood and bamboo. These instruments, locally known by name such as ‘manselenka’ and ‘badidika,’ produce clapping sounds.
