New Delhi District



Nestled between the Aravalis on the south and north-west and the river Yamuna in the east, New Delhi is said to have been a kingdom of the Gods long before man discovered it. New Delhi, covering an area of 35 sq km, has a population of over 180,000. New Delhi has a rich cultural heritage, which is reflected in its art, craft, music and dance. It houses the power structure, the ministries and the parliament. The National Gallery of Modern Art, one of the most prestigious art galleries, is situated in New Delhi District. Notable attractions include the Rashtrapati Bhavan , the one-time imperial residence of the British viceroys; the India Gate, a memorial raised in honor of the Indian soldiers martyred during the Afghan war; and the Lakshmi Narayan Temple.
