Nellikulangara Vela

Nellikulangara Vela is celebrated at Nellikulangara Bhagavathi Temple, to invoke the blessings of Nellikulangara Bhagavathy. This festival is conducted by the people of Vellangi and Nenmara, on the 20th day of Malayalam month Meenam (March–April). The grand procession carrying the image of Bhagavathi on the back of a richly decked elephant is one of the main attractions of this festival. The procession is accompanied by panchavadyam. There will be a grand display of pyrotechnics during the night. The festival is conducted by the villagers in a spirit of healthy competition. The flag hoisting ceremony of the vela is held jointly by the residents of Vellangi and Nenmara, on the 9th day of Malayalam month Meenam. Kummatti, Karivela and Andivela are some of the folk rituals performed during the festival.
