Nandalal Bose was born in 1883 at Kharagpur
in Munger District
. He was a renowned Bengali painter. Highly influenced by the murals graced on the Ajanta caves
, Bose created paintings of women, village life and scenes depicting Indian mythologies. Among his popular paintings are Gandhari with a Maid, Sati Chitay Arohan and Fresco-Buono painting.
Nandalal had worked as an art-teacher at Santiniketan, run by Rabindranath Tagore. In 1955, Nandalal was honored with Padmabhusan. His paintings are now famous as the Haripura posters.
