Murudeshwar Shiva Temple



Murudeshwar Shiva Temple is situated on a small hill known as Kanduka Giria in Murdeshwar, Karnataka. It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. The temple enshrines a shivling, which is believed to have erupted when Ravana flung the cloth covering the Atmalinga while lifting it. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to the temple.

World’s tallest idol of Lord Shiva, 123 ft tall, is at Murdeshwar.Mahashivratri is the main festival celebrated here.

Murdeshwar Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
