Named after the German Indologist Max MŁeller, the Max Mueller Bhavan in New Delhi
is a branch of the Goethe-Institute, a non-profit organisation of Germany. It stands to promote the studies of German culture and German language in India. The center has a language department, a library and information center and a program department. German language classes are conducted for people of all ages. The Max Mueller library houses about 15,000 books on German culture and literature.
The center organizes cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts, films, dance and theater shows. In addition, the Bhavan arranges regional programs, language activities, library services and supervises overall management of the Goethe Institutes in south Asia.
