Langvir Nritya

Langvir Nritya is a popular dance form native to Tehri Garhwal District of Uttaranchal. This dance contains a series of acrobatic moves and is performed exclusively by men.

A bamboo pole, fixed on the ground, is required for the performance of Langvir Nritya. The main dancer climbs on the top of this pole and balances his body using his stomach. Balancing in this manner, he performs a series of acrobatics like rotating on stomach and movements using hands and feet.

While the movements are carried out on the top of the pole, the musicians down below give the music using percussion instruments like Dhol and Daman. This dance is a major attraction among the local population of the region.
