Khambeswari Temple



Khambeswari Temple is a highly revered shrine at Sonpur, in Orissa. It was built by the Chauhan ruler, Rajaraja Singh. The temple enshrines an idol of Goddess Khambeswari in the form of Vana Durga. Earliest reference of the Goddess is found in the Tarasinga copper plates of Maharaja Trustikara of 5th century AD. Ten lady figures are exquisitely carved in one panel, on the door of Garbh Griha.

Balangir Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
