Kartarpur



Kartarpur is a small town situated 16 km from Jalandhar, on the way to Amritsar, in Punjab. The place is famous as the birthplace of Swami Virjanand and is a major center for furniture manufacture in the state.

Places of tourist interest include the 17th century Gurdwara built by Guru Arjan Dev Ji and the memorial of Guru Virjanand Smarak. A big fair organized here annually, to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, is a major draw. The Artistic Wooden Furniture Centre set up by the state government to train young entrepreneurs in the intricacies of craftsmanship is another spot worth visiting.

Nearest airport is at Amritsar. Kartarpur Railway Station is on the Jalandhar-Amritsar line. National Highway 1 passes through Kartarpur.
