Kamatchiaman Temple is one of the landmarks in Pondicherry Town. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga, a warrior form of Lord Shiva's consort. The deity is in dark rust color and is decorated with limited ornaments. The annual festival is celebrated with great pomp and festivity. On the ninth day of the festival the deity is taken as a grand procession throughout the town on a wooden chariot. Thousands of pilgrims from far and near come to witness this grand event.
