Hemalkasa, a non-government organization, was founded by Baba Amte in 1973 for the welfare of the Madia Gond tribals living among the hills of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. It is located in 50 acres of land in Gadchiroli District, Maharashtra. The center houses a hospital, a wildlife shelter home and a residential school for tribal boys and girls. A night school, which offers basic education to residents of the nearby villages, also functions under the organization.
