Gongmaru la is situated at an altitude of about 5250 m in Ladakh, Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir. This is an ideal base for trekking and is a part of the well known, classic Ladakh Trek. The trek is easy and suitable for acclimatization. The other trekking routes nearby includes Markha Valley trek and Spituk to Zingchen. One can reach Leh by crossing the Gongmaru La to Hemis and Leh. From the top of the pass, there is a good view of the Karakorams, the Himalayas and into Tibet. The Hemis Monastery is near the pass. The pass descends to the Indus Valley.
