Firozabad



Firozabad, popularly known as the city of glass, is in western Uttar Pradesh, 44 Km from Agra and 200 km from Delhi. An industrial center, it is famous for its glassware work, chandeliers and decorative lights, and glass ornaments. The temple of Jains and Hindus is one of the principal attractions. The city is also an important trade center.

Known as Chandwar Nagar in ancient times, Firozabad was given its present name in 1566, during the rule of Akbar. The city has played a prominent role in Mughal and British periods as well as during the Independence Movement. Its glass industry is also steeped in history and tradition. Firozabad has a large Muslim population.

A major rail line and national highway connect Firozabad to Kolkata and Delhi. At a distance of about 50 km is the nearby airfield, Agra Kheria Airport. Fatehpur Sikri, Shilp Gram and Gwalior are nearby attractions.
