Urdu Poet


Firaq Gorakhpuri is the pen name of Raghupati Sahai, a renowned Urdu poet. Born in 1896, he lived in Allahabad and wrote more than 40,000 couplets, several collections of ghazals and poems. His poetic creations were published in three anthologies, 'Rooh-o-Qaayanath', 'Gul-e-Ra’naa' and 'Nagma-numaa'. In 1960, he was awarded by Sahitya Akademi for his collection 'Gul-e-Nagma'. He was also a popular literary critic. He passed away in 1982.
