Firaq Gorakhpuri is the pen name of Raghupati Sahai, a renowned Urdu
poet. Born in 1896, he lived in Allahabad
and wrote more than 40,000 couplets, several collections of ghazal
s and poems. His poetic creations were published in three anthologies, 'Rooh-o-Qaayanath', 'Gul-e-Ra’naa' and 'Nagma-numaa'. In 1960, he was awarded by Sahitya Akademi
for his collection 'Gul-e-Nagma'. He was also a popular literary critic. He passed away in 1982.
