Dholki

Dholki, also known as Nal, is a membranous percussion instrument that resembles the tabla. Its left side is similar to the bayan of the tabla. An oil based application known as dhola masala is used to give a permanent black spot called Syahi at the center of its head. Syahi determines the tone and quality of the sound. Goat skin and iron rings are also used in the construction of this instrument. An integral part of Indian music, Dholki is widely used in bhajan, kirtan and geet performances.
