Dasam Granth

Dasam Granth is a collection of writings composed by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. It also includes contributions from numerous other poets and writers. This literary work extends over 1,428 pages. It is written using the Gurmukhi script in four languages, namely Braj, Hindi, Persian and Punjabi.

Dasam Granth contains mythological, philosophical and autobiographical writings. The mythological writings make up the largest portion in this book. It mostly contains tales borrowed from Hindu mythology. They contain legends of Hindu gods like Lord Vishnu, Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, whose heroic deeds served as a source of courage to the readers. Apart from mythology, the literary work contains devotional verses and interesting anecdotes.

Dasam Granth preached the existence of a supreme god, who is formless, unborn and timeless and is present everywhere. The social evils like caste system and distinction between sexes was greatly detested by the writings. The scripture believed in ‘dharma yudh’ (holy war) against tyrants and the corrupt.
