Burhanpur is a small town in Madhya Pradesh, on the banks of Tapti River. Founded in 1400, this was the capital of an independent Muslim principality until the reign of Akbar. It has many mosques and tombs and a palace built by the Mughal emperor Akbar. The town is famous for high quality silver and gold brocades and gold wire. Burhanpur Railway Station is the nearest access point. Ghantaghar, a sacred place, is nearby.
