Buddha Mahotsava, a unique Buddhist festival of Uttar Pradesh, is held in December at Sarnath of Varanasi District.
It is believed that Gautam Buddha achieved supreme knowledge or Nirvana on this day. The Mahotsava is made alive with teachings, seminars, prayers and other enlightened activities. The people from far and near come to Sarnath to participate in these activities.
