Basholi is a small town situated on the right bank of Ravi River in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir. It is about 88 km from Bani.
One of the taluks of the district, Basholi is believed to have been founded by Raja Bhupat Paul in 1653. In 1835, the king of Basholi died and the town became a part of the state, under Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Lying at an altitude of 2170 ft, this town was very famous for many magnificent places, which are now in ruins and miniature paintings (known as Basohli paintings). It is said that Gobind Singh, the tenth and last Guru of the Sikhs, spent a few years here.
Chamunda Devi Temple, situated near the main chowk in the town, is a prime attraction. Excursion to Sarthal, Banjal Pass (55 km),
Dhar Mahanpur (27 km) and Bani are awe-inspiring.
Kathua Railway Station serves this area. The nearest airport is Jammu Airport. Regular buses connect Basholi with Kathua, Hiranagar, Billawar, Bhaderwah and Marmoth.
