Basavakalyan



Basavakalyan, the erstwhile capital of the Kalyana Chalukyas, is an ancient town situated in Bidar District of Karnataka. It was once the centre of a great social and religious upheaval in the 12th century. Basavakalyan is about 80 km west of Bidar, the district headquarters.

Basavakalyan is renowned for its cultural heritage. The town has become a seat of learning and an abode of spiritual wisdom during the time of the social reformer Basaveshwara. The town also houses a large number of historic monuments, ancient caves and other places of historic importance. Every year large number of saints visits the place for religious purpose.

Bidar Railway Station serves Basavakalyan. By road, the town is well connected with Hulsur, Bhalki, Andur and Zahirabad.
